What is a Light Party?
A Light Party is an alternative celebration to Halloween. Light Parties are often hosted by churches, Sunday Schools, children’s ministries and as part of a Messy Church programme.
Rather than centring themes of ghosts, monsters, witches and evil spirits, a Light Party focuses on the theme of Jesus being the light in the world.
How to host a Light Party
You can host your Light Party on the date of Halloween or on the following Sunday, or other date to suit you.
You can decorate your venue with bright colours, or go with a silver and gold theme.
You might light your space with candles (be sure to follow appropriate safety precautions or consider using battery-powered candles rather than live flame) or fairy/twinkle lights, or even a disco glitter ball.
Your children might like to dress up in bright colours or in gold or silver to looks like stars.
You can play traditional party games, read stories, sing and dance to joyful music, and enjoy making some of the lantern crafts listed below.
The Scripture Union also has a Light Party resource pack.
