Materials needed
:: Christmas tree letter cards – see below for details of how to print them.
You can print on card for extra durability.
You can print a lower case set and / or upper case set, to suit your needs.
How to use the Christmas alphabet cards
:: Talk about your tree alphabet. Who can spot the letter that their name starts with? Who can find letters with straight lines? Or with curves? Who can find the letter in the alphabet that come after s?
:: Hide the letter trees around the house / classroom and see if your children can find them all.
:: Use them to make the alphabet. Peg up the trees on a washing line, in alphabetical order.
:: Place out two sets of the letter trees and use them to play matching games. You can match lower case a with its lower case a pair or match it with upper case A.
:: Play a letter version of our number memory game.
:: Hide the letter trees in a sensory tub – you could make a candy cane version. Adding letter cards in with play makes for a print-rich environment which supports children to recognise, be confident with, and read letters.
:: Make a Christmas sensory writing tray and you can practice writing each letter.
:: Use them alongside our Christmas spelling mat to practice reading, writing and making the letters.
:: Use them in Christmas small world to add a print-rich environment to your imaginary play. The more your children see letters, the more they recognise them and learn their meaning.
