The Nativity Story Part One: An angel appears to Mary
Day One of our Nativity story beings with Mary, a young woman living in Nazareth in Galilee, many years ago.
God sent an angel to Mary to tell her she was going to have a baby. The baby was very special because he was the son of God.
Our theme for day one is hope. A long time before the angel brought the good news to Mary, the book of Isaiah in the Bible told that this would happen:
For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
And today in our story, that promise is coming true:
The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favour with God… And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy–the Son of God.
Luke 1:30, 35
