Almost a wordless post today as I think the slides speak for themselves. Go for a walk, collect some natural goodies and see what you can make. Use glue, bluetac or stickytape if you want to fix your pictures in place.

If your children are anything like mine, come autumn and the house begins to fill with conkers. But what to do with them? The girls enjoy using them in their play, however their imaginations take them: this week L’s had a class of conkers which she’s been bossing around and reading stories too!
If you’d like to give the kids a blast from our childhoods, how about reminding them of the rules of playing conkers? My article over at Ready for Ten has some tips on how to pick a winning conker.
And how about trying some conker weaving. Hannah at Home Baked shared a photo of some beautiful conker webs she’d made this week. We were inspired to try some ourselves and even had a go at making conker baskets. A little fiddly for my 4 year old, but my 7 year old sat for over an hour tonight making and making and making them. Making a tree collage with all the leaves you collect on an autumn walk. A forest of these make a great mural.
Or an alternative tree collage using sugar paper: perfect if you have a child who loves tearing up paper. Even toddlers can try this one and produce a beautiful picture.
Abby at Little Red Buttons has a beautiful idea to make a necklace from conkers – you have to go see!
Deb shows us how to make an autumn mobile over at Ready for Ten. I like the idea of adding some seeds and nuts to it to turn it into a bird feeder.
And Valerie’s idea for falling leaves wrapping paper is lovely.

While we were making our first autumn craft of the year on Monday we also added to the sensory alphabet we’re working on. Once she’d satisfied her need to do some sticking, L made some leaf rubbings using wax crayons. We cut them out and used them as the background for our ‘l is for leaf’ picture.
Crafting with children is such a good way to help them develop important skills: picking out all the autumn colours from the crayon pot works on classification skills, important for maths and literacy, and using scissors to cut out leaves works on fine motor skills.
We also made a ‘h is for hole’ a while ago – turns out a hole-punch is fascinating when you’re 4! Here’s how out alphabet is coming along.

I love autumn. I love the feeling of change and the crispness of the air but even better than that is the opportunity for lots of beautiful autumn crafts. Take a walk along a leafy lane with a pre-schooler and you simply can’t help having fun and learning something new. Talk about why the leaves are falling, what colours you can see, the different shapes of the leaves. Do you know the names of the trees? Can you catch a leaf as it falls? Collect some favourite shapes and colours and bring them home to make a leaf picture.
I’d thought we might do some leaf rubbings using wax crayons but L wanted to glue. Here’s the picture she made – with some letters sneaked in too.
