A strange new habitat has appeared in our playroom – what could it be?
Secret surveillance cameras reveal signs of life – glimpses of the wild creatures inside.
Special cameras attached to the animals allow us to penetrate deep into the burrow, where no adults may enter.
The footage reveals that, deep underground, these creatures like to play…
…and sleep in four poster beds.
B says ‘playing dens is our favourite thing ever’. I say a whole day’s worth of happy, imaginative play is well worth having a messy room to tidy.

What wonderful dens they have built!
Cathy @ NurtureStore says
Maryanne – they are den masters!
Natalie says
You are lucky to have two! My daughter fully expect me to crawl right there with her 🙂
Cathy @ NurtureStore says
Natalie, it’s funny you say that because at one point I thought they wanted me to join them – I think I would have got stuck! – but actually they just wanted to steal my camera for some inside shots.
Esther says
Wow wonderful den! Long time we did tents like the pink ones!
Cathy, I have given Versatile blogger award to you at my blog. Please drop by!

How lovely Esther – thank you.
JDaniel4's Mom says
We made a fort yesterday. It required taking all the bedding off a bed and flinging it over a couch.
Cathy @ NurtureStore says
Ooh JDaniel4’s Mom, sounds like you’re working on your aversion to mess! I bet JDaniel had fun in his fort.
Jamie @ hands on : as we grow says
Oh that’s not a mess! lol – I was expecting paint and water all over 🙂 lol this is a CLEAN mess!! But I absolutely love it, it reminds me of me being a child and am so excited for that time when my kids start doing this!
Cathy @ NurtureStore says
Jamie, I shall accept that as a challenge – next time I’ll really show you a messy mess!
Noelle says
What a great idea – my 2 love making dens but I forget to do it with them. Thanks for the feature.
Cathy @ NurtureStore says
Noelle – I can’t stop my two making them!!
Krissa says
My daughter does the same thing…only they’re called castles. 🙂
Allie says
I love this – I can’t wait until we sell our house so we can make big long messes … wait I mean big play dens!
Cathy @ NurtureStore says
Allie -It must be driving you crazy while you wait to move. Hope you sell soon!
maryanne says
Thanks for linking up with Learning Laboratory at Mama Smiles!
Marvelous dens! =)
jenny @ let the children play says
I love that you embrace the mess! I have a split personality when it comes to mess. At home, my mess tolerance is low. At preschool – anything goes 🙂 With 2 boys at home, I have had to learn to take deep breathes and let it go!
Cathy @ NurtureStore says
Hi Jenny – it’s interesting that you have two tidyness modes. I work from home so it’s all or nothing here – but I do like having a tidy sitting room to retreat to each evening 🙂
Nicole {Tired, Need Sleep} says
I absolutely LOVE this! Isn’t it great when their imagination takes over in such a huge way? Definitely worth having to clean up later!
Cathy @ NurtureStore says
Nicole, I totally agree. It was so wonderful to watch them playing – worth all the tidying up 🙂
Wegweiser Barbara says
Lovely dens. A very imaginative way to let the kids “decorate” their room.
