Here’s a pretty set of autumn leaf lacing cards that you can print and use to help your children develop their fine motor skills.
Free printable leaf lacing cards for fall fine motor skills
These printable leaf lacing cards are a great fine motor skill activity for autumn and make a fun addition to a finger gym.
Using their hands, wrists, and fingers to manipulate the cards and thread helps children develop flexible and strong fine motor skills.
Materials needed
:: selection of year or string
:: sticky tape and darning needles (optional)
How to set up a leaf lacing finger gym
Print the leaf lacing cards (see below) and cut out the individual leaves.
Print them on card for extra durability and no need to laminate them – less plastic!
Use a hole punch to make holes in all the white dots.
The red leaf have larger and fewer holes to lace. The yellow leaf has smaller and more holes to lace.
Set out the leaves with yarn or string. You can adapt the finger gym to suit your children and set them an appropriate challenge:
Thicker yarn or string is easier to lace than a thinner version (but make sure it’s not too thick to pass through the holes).
You can wrap a little stick tape around the end of the thread to stop it fraying and make it easier to pass through the holes.
You can also use darning needles to add an extra dimension. These are blunt-ended needles with a large eye. Challenge your children to thread the needles first, and then sew around their leaf.
