This paper Christmas tree craft comes with a free printable template and is great to help children learn to follow step by step instructions and develop scissor skills.
How to make a paper Christmas tree with free printable template
This article is one of NurtureStore’s Christmas math centres and part of our Christmas activities and crafts for children.
Each child can make their own colour and pattern selection as they use their scissor skills to make this pretty Christmas tree craft.
Materials needed
:: Christmas tree template – one per child (see below to print)
Print out the Christmas tree template (see below) and use coloured pens and pencils to fill in each strip.
You can use traditional green or make it brightly coloured.
Add in a touch of math by using repeating patterns in your design: one solid strip followed by a patterned strip.
Add in an extra math twist by measuring each strip and observing how they increase by one centimetre with each new stip.
Notice how the strips are all left-aligned on the printable but how we are going to line them up symmetrically along a centre line to create our tree.
Cut out each strip – nice and simple scissor skills practice.
Then lay out your ten strips, in size order from the one centimetre strip to the ten centimetre strip.
Align them symmetrically along the centre line to create the Christmas tree shape.
Glue the strips down on a piece of folded paper to make a Christmas card.
Alternatively, to make a Christmas decoration, stick the strips to a lollipop stick or twig ‘tree trunk’.
Add ribbon or twine to the top so you can hang the decoration.
