Plastic Egg Water Play
A fun sensory play idea for our Eggs and Birds Unit is to play with eggs in water.
You will need:
plastic eggs
a tub, sink, paddling pool or bathtub
scoops, spoons and ladles
sieves, funnels and jugs
food colouring (optional)
You can play outside in a paddling pool or tub of water, or indoors at the kitchen sink, or in the bath tub.
Fill your container with warm-ish water, add your eggs, scoops, ladles and jugs – and let the children play!
You can add a drop of food colouring to the water if you’d like to colour it.
You can also freeze coloured water inside balloons if you want to make ice eggs.
As children are enjoying their play they are also learning lots of things: exploring a sensory material; co-ordinating hands and eyes to scoop up and transfer the eggs; working with cause and effect as they fill and tip the ladles and jugs; playing with size and volume; using vocabulary to talk about what they are doing; stretching their imagination as they ‘cook’ and make up stories with the eggs; working as a team as they play with others; learning life skills as the handle kitchen equipment and help to tidy up after they have finished playing.
