Clever ways to use number cards to boost math skills
Keep a pack of number cards on hand and you can easily set up a new math lesson or an invitation for your children to practice and develop their skills.
You can use number cards in your classroom and when you’re out and about.
They can be used as a visual display, for teacher-led activities, and made available for your children to use in math discovery centers and in their play.
Try these ideas:
:: Add the number cards to math discovery centres and math stations
:: Use them as loose parts when you need items to count or use for arithmetic
:: Use them to make a number line
:: Use them to play matching games. Print two sets and see if you can match up the pairs of numbers
:: Place two sets of the number cards face down and use them to play Memory
:: Hide the number cards around the house or garden and see if your children can find them all and place them in numerical order, from small to big, and from big to small
:: Hide the number cards in a sensory tub. Adding counting cards in with your sensory play makes for a number-rich environment which supports children to recognise, be confident with, and use numbers
:: Use the cards for sorting games, for example sorting between odd and even numbers
:: Practice writing numbers in a writing tray. Set out your number cards with a sensory writing tray and invite your children to copy the form of each digit.
