This month’s Kids Art Explorers project is all about trying out painting – but with no paint brushes allowed. This week we set up a No Pain Brush Paint Station and went on a hunt to see what we could find around the house that might be good to paint with. The children found some great stuff. They discovered lots of different shapes and textures and were excited to be painting with things they considered rather daring!

Here’s an idea from my colleague Lesley, which we used at creche this week.
Cut out a rabbit face shape from a piece of card, with lovely big bunny ears. Provide pink noses and ear shapes, black wool for whiskers and black pens or pencils for drawing on eyes. Invite the children to glue, stick and draw to make their own bunny rabbit craft. You could turn this into a mask too – punch eye holes and attach an elastic thread at the sides and the children can wear their creations. [Read more…]
The Kids Art Explorers project this month is enjoying a No Paint Brushes Allowed challenge. We’re trying out lots of different ways to use paint and inviting you to join in. The NurtureStore children have been hunting through our art and craft cupboard to find different materials they think will be great to paint with. We also have lots of other blogs joining in the project and you can see some of the amazing art they’ve been creating below. But first, here’s what we created when we tried painting with drinking straws.
Ever tried cotton bud art? We’ve used them before when we tried some pointillism and our current Facebook page photo was created by swirling cotton buds through paint but this week we’ve been using cotton buds by themselves to see what pictures we could make.
This year we are undertaking lots of different art experiments. We’re exploring materials, techniques and styles and seeing where our creativity takes us. We’re celebrating the process of art: trying new things, having a go, being daring, making mistakes. We’re interested in how things turn out but much more focused on the fun we have along the way.
