Draw a pumpkin outline on a piece of watercolour paper or card. You can draw your own shape or use the template from The Super Fun, Not Scary Halloween Unit.
Fill paint pots or glass jars with water and add either liquid watercolours or food colouring in shades of yellow and orange.
You can use dry paper, or you can brush water over the surface of your paper. You’ll get a different effect depending on which approach you choose. You could experiment with both.
Use a pipette to pick up coloured water from your pots and squeeze it on to your pumpkin area.
Experiment with how hard or gentle you squeeze the pipette. Can you create a large blob of paint and tiny dots?
Experiment with colour mixing. What happens when you add one colour on top of another.
Once you have added as much colour as you want to, leave your pumpkin on a flat surface to dry.
When dry you can cut out your pumpkin and add a Jack-o-lantern face if you wish.
