This monster is very hungry and she loves to eat letters!
You can use this literacy printable with your children to have lots of fun while you work a variety of alphabet and spelling skills.
How to use this monster printable
Print the monster and the alphabet circles onto card. (See below for details on how to download.)
Cut out the monster, including a slit for his mouth, and cut out the individual letter pieces.
You can laminate them for more durability if you wish.
Feed the Monster letter game
Introduce the monster to your children. What are you going to call her?
Tell your children that the monster loves to eat letters and she’s feeling ever so hungry today. Can they help you feed her?
Pick up a letter and read it out to the monster. “Monster, would you like to eat a c?” If the monster says yes, pop the letter into the monster’s mouth. Watch your fingers!
Variations on the monster game
There are so many ways you can use this monster printable to support literacy.
Children can work individually, in pairs or in a group. Try these ideas:
:: feed the monster in alphabetical order
:: feed the monster only the letters in your name
:: feed the monster only letters with straight lines
:: feed the monster only letters with curves
:: have the monster say what it likes to eat and feed it the matching letter. So if the monster likes to eat apples, feed it the letter ‘a’.
:: add in an upper case letter set and feed one monster upper case letters, and one monster lower case letters
