Let’s combine art, colour, and sensory play to introduce children to the five times table.
Fives times table craft for kids
In this activity children are introduced to the five times table through a colourful, fun art project that creates a memorable wall display to help them learn how to count in fives.
This idea is taken from our Fun Math curriculum which is full of art, play, and hands-on activities that let children really understand the concepts of math we are teaching them, in ways they love to engage with and will always remember.
Magic Fun Math lessons!
Fun Math is an easy to teach, highly effective math curriculum based on play and hands-on learning.
All the lessons are designed to be fun and memorable, so children enjoy their lessons and feel confident.
The lessons are easy for teachers and parents to use, in class or at home.
These are the magic lessons where children really see, understand, and can apply math concepts. They are especially suited to children who don’t like math, lack confidence, don’t understand math the way they are currently being taught, or just want to play.

Make a times table anchor chart
Let’s use handprint art to count in fives. We’ll introduce the fives times table and make a wall display ‘anchor chart’ they can refer to when they need to count in fives.
Following on from our two times table butterflies and these five times table handprints, you could also create for other multiplication sequences to display on your wall:
:: For the 3 times table make triangles
:: For the 4 times table make cats or dogs and count their legs, or cars and count their wheels
:: For the 6 times table make ladybirds or bees and count their legs
:: For the 7 times table make rainbows and count their colours
:: And for the 8 times table make spiders and count their legs or octopi and count their tentacles
How to make fives tables tables art
To make the handprint art, set out washable paint on plates and invite your children to dip in their hands and to make prints all over the paper.
Once the paint is dry, cut out the handprints.
Use a marker pen to write the times table sequence, counting up in five fingers on each hand.
Write one number (5, 10, 15, 20…) on each hand.
Stick the numbered hand prints, in ascending order, up on the wall or string them up as a number line display, which your children can refer to any time they need help to count up in fives.
