This is a gorgeous and easy 3D gingerbread house craft children can make as a decoration or as a gingerbread man storytelling play set.
How to fold a paper house
This gingerbread art project invites children to use drawing and storytelling skills as they create a 3D model of a gingerbread house.
Materials needed:
:: paper house folding guide from the Gingerbread Man Unit
:: brown card
:: white pen
:: coloured stickers or card
:: scissors and glue (optional)
Fold up a piece of brown card following the instructions on the folding guide from the Gingerbread Unit. You’ll fold your card to create a house shape with a front, back or inside, and two side panels.
Use a white pen to draw a design on all four sides of your house, so it looks like it has been iced with frosting. Think about what a gingerbread house would look like when it’s decorated to inspire your design.
You might like to draw a roof and porch on the front of the house. Add a front door, windows and a gate.
On the other large side, you could draw the back of the house or draw what the house looks like inside. You could draw the little old lady baking her gingerbread man. Include lots of details to make your house really interesting to look at: you can include elements from The Gingerbread Man story or make your house Christmas-themed.
You might like to use stickers, or cut shapes from coloured card to glue on, to create sweets and candies to decorate your house.
Don’t forget to add a design to the sides of your house.
How to use your gingerbread house
You can use your house as a decoration.
You might like to use your house as a play set. You could draw the characters from The Gingerbread Man story on another piece of card, cut them out and use them as puppets. You can re-tell the traditional story or make up your own dramatic twists.
