They’re all good ways to invite children to explore this concept that’s important for maths skills, art and even learning your ABCs.
Some are nice and simple, so great for younger children, and there are ideas included to add in some challenges – useful for children a little older. I love the idea with the stickers!
Symmetry activities for children
The classic way to begin to explore symmetry is to make folded blotto paintings.
You can use the same symmetry art technique to make hearts – for bunting or gift tags.
Have you tried making symmetrical pictures using stickers. You can fold the paper in four to make radial symmetry pictures as well as only along one fold.
You can include natural materials and make a petal butterfly craft.
I love this idea of using ladybirds for addition games.
And have you explored the symmetry in our letters?
Using mirrors to explore symmetry with wooden shapes is another great activity.
You can also build your own snowflakes using the mirror tiles…
or try making snowflake pictures with one, two or three lines of symmetry.
