Welcome to the Nurturestore Sunflower Club

In 2010 NurtureStore is going to be growing sunflowers in the garden and we’d like you to join in the fun.

Right through the Spring and Summer we’ll be offering lots of ideas for you to do at home to help your children have fun and learn along with us. We’ll use the sunflowers to learn about plants, animals, seasons, where food come from and how things grow, maths and science. And we’ll let the plants inspire us to be creative with art, crafts, words and songs. There’s no obligation to join in all the activities but you’re sure to find ideas your child will enjoy.

Latest Activities:

1. Planting Sunflower Seeds – science experiment

2. Sunflower Height Chart – numbers and measurement

3. Garden Bingo – mini beast hunt

4. Snail races – biology

5. Sunflower Counting Game – preschool numbers

6. Handprint Sunflowers – art

7. Sunflower Poems – language

8. End of summer party – link up

To join the NurtureStore Sunflower Club:

1. Leave a comment on this page. My girls are excited to know who is joining in the club, so please say ‘hello’.

2. Join the NurtureStore Facebook Fan Page or add NurtureStore to your reader – so you don’t miss any of the activities we post.

3. Get you sunflowers seeds ready for planting. To launch the club I have 10 packets of seeds to give away to 10 of you. Leave a comment on this page by midnight (UK time) on Sunday 21st February 2010 and I’ll pick 10 of you at random to recieve the seeds. (I’ll e-mail you if you’re selected to get your mailing address.) If you’re not one of the 10 you’ll need to get yourself some seeds from your local store. We’ll be growing Helianthus annus Giant Single but don’t worry if you can’t find these, any sunflowers seeds will be fine to join in. You can start planting them in March.

4. Grab the Sunflower Club badge. If you are a blogger you can copy the code over on the left-hand column to add to your blog. Let us know if you’re writing about how your sunflowers grow, as we’d love to visit your blog to see how they’re getting on. And if you’re not a blogger you can of course still  join in with all the activities and you can post a comment on this blog or on the Facebook page if you’d like to share how your plants are doing .

I hope you’ll join in and get growing with us.
